Page design: What makes a site your site is the content. You've looked at enough sites to recognize that what you want to do on a page will have a major impact on how the page has to be structured. So what ya got?
Very busy: lots of links, announcements of events, programs, awards, etc. A collage of events and activities. A tight design utilizing columns and lines to balance space and the press of business.
Less busy: links, announcements, events but fewer in number. Still a lot of stuff but enough less the density can be relaxed.
Task orientation: find a class, register, arrange payment. Get it done easy and simple.Portal: for internal operations. No frills. Just what you need. Unless you know what it means, it doesn't even make sense. What is a 600-1?
Portal: again internal but also with additional security. If you don't belong, you won't have access.
Images: Once past the first page, there are lots of options. And still lots of concerns. How many images on a page? Images slow download time and don't do much for people with visual problems (simply aging makes some small images a nightmare to deal with). The audience isn't always who you expect so you need to plan for that. But sometimes you need to show an event or a line of products. One solution is a "gallery" leading to a "slide show".
Slideshow: images with textual explanations. These happen to be the azaela gardens at the National Arboritum, personal favorites. Flip on through.
Forms: Interactive forms are common. The Contact Us form used here is an attempt to hold down spam. The email address is added on the server so it isn't here for spambots to copy. The same technique can be part of a more complicated order or registration form:
Registration form: this has checks for missed entries and will keep already entered data so it doesn't have to be entered over and over and over. Go ahead and kick the tires. Change some entries, the form will return what you did with helpful error messages.
Data: Once you've got the information from the form, you need to process it. This page makes the secure connection needed to help protect the data. Look for the little lock in the lower left corner.
Get the data: you can't change the information but you can at least look at it.
By the way, we can set up and maintain those databases for you. All you need to do is make use of them. And since we handle it, we can make changes when you need them.
That's what we do: your content, your design, your site built and maintained.
